If Burma/Myanmar is anything like Thailand, protesting monks is a pretty Big Thing. It means it’s not a minority democracy movement, it’s something sanctioned by the biggest and most respected (and most politically powerful) religion in the region.
The closest analogy I can think of is it’s like if in NZ university lecturers organised a protest about student fees/loans.
One of those pics reminds me of the famous dude-in-front-of-a-tank-in-China picture.
Anyway… should we call it Burma or Myanmar? It was officially changed to to Myanmar a while ago, but it was changed by the dictatorship, so should we could it as legit?
